DESCRIPTION OF THE SACRED VALLEY:
The Sacred Valley of the Incas runs along the Urubamba River, and extends from Pisac to Ollantaytambo. The Valley is famous for its fertile soil, gentle climate, and amazing beauty. This area was greatly prized by the Incas, and some of their finest constructions can be found there. There are snow-capped mountains, numerous streams that descend through steep ravines, fertile fields where some of the finest corn in the world is cultivated, incredible Incan ruins, and ancient villages where the tradition-loving inhabitants still speak Quechua and follow their ancient traditions.
ITINERARY:
This tour starts in the city of Cusco. We will head out of the city in our comfortable tourist vehicle and drive to the PISAC Archaeological Center which is located high on a ridge above the scenic mountain town of PISAQ. Here we will have a guided tour of approximately 1 hour. Then we will visit the traditional ARTISAN’S CRAFT MARKET located in the center of the town of PISAQ. Next, we will follow the Inca’s Sacred River (which is called both the Vilcanota River and the Urubamba River) to the town of URUBAMBA for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon we will go to the famous living Incan village of OLLANTAYTAMBO. In the fantastic ruins above the town, we will enjoy a one-hour guided tour. Finally, before returning to CUSCO, we go to the scenic town of CHINCHERO where there is another fine market full of gorgeous, handmade weavings. There is also an amazing Incan Archeological Complex in Chinchero, which we can discover on our 40-minute guided tour of the site. The tour ends at approximately at 6:30 pm. when we drop you off at your hotel.
