Description

Choquequirao is at an elevation (3040 m – 9974 ft.) It is located on the flanks of the great Vilcabamba Mountain Range, in the Santa Teresa district of the Province of La Convención in the Cusco Region of southern Peru.

ITINERARY:

DAY 1 Cusco – The Village of Cachora – Chiquisca

We will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco, and then drive for four hours in our private tourist vehicle, until we arrive at the town of Cachora (2600m – 8,530 ft.) This is where our trek begins. In Cachora we will meet up with our team of cooks, horses, and horsemen. From here we make a relatively steep descent down into the Apurimac Canyon. The views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks will be unforgettable. It will take approx. four hours of hiking for us to arrive at Chikisca (1836m – 6023ft.) This will be our campsite for the night and where we will enjoy a delicious dinner.

DAY 2: Chikisca – Apurimac River – Suchunapata

Very early in the morning we will have our breakfast and then start out by crossing the mighty Apurimac River by bridge. This will be the lowest point on our journey. Next we will have to climb up the narrow trail on the opposite side of the canyon. Following along the ancient pathway through the cloud forest, we will make our way to Suchunapata. We will have lunch here, and relax for a while to watch the condors overhead. This will be our second campsite at 2870 m – 9416 ft.

DAY 3: Suchunapata – CHOQUEQUIRAO – Chiquisca

After our breakfast it will only take 1 hour of hiking until we reach CHOQUEQUIRAO (3040 m – 9974 ft.) At this magical place we will have a 1-hour guided tour. And then you will have free time to explore the majestic sights on your own. After touring Choquequirao, we will start back along the trail, stopping at Marampata to have our lunch. Then we will continue walking downhill until we reach Chiquisca. This is where our camp will be set up, and where we can eat a great dinner and relax.

DAY 4: Chikisca – Capuliyoc – Cachora – Cusco

Early in the morning we will have our breakfast, and then we will begin the final stretch of our trek. When we arrive at Cachora, our private car will be waiting to take us back to Cusco (a 4 hour drive). We will arrive in Cusco between 4 and 5 pm.
