ITINERARY:

DAY 1: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMPA – THE SALKANTAY TREK

Hotel pick-up time will be 4:30 am. We will board our bus heading to the town of Mollepata, and we will arrive there at approximately 8:30 am. This is the starting point of our great adventure. We will walk for four hours as we marvel at the diversity of the flora and fauna. Then we will arrive at Silcakancha which is where we will eat lunch. After lunch, another 3 hours of hiking will bring us to Soraypampa. Our campsite will be set up and waiting. All you have to do is relax under the starry Andean sky. Your delicious dinner will be served to you.

DAY 2 : SORAYPAMPA – COLPABAMBA

We will wake up early for a delicious breakfast. Then we will get ready to leave Soraypampa (3400 meters) and hike up to the pass which is at an elevation of 4650 meters above sea level. This will be the highest point of our trek. There will be oxygen and a first aid kit available in case of any emergency along the trail.

After contemplating the incredible beauty of the high Andes surrounding us, we will descend in the direction of the Eyebrow of the Jungle. We will eat our lunch beside the trail, and then continue hiking until we reach our second campsite. It will be much warmer here. It is a good idea to wear mosquito repellant. We will have entered a different ecological zone, the zone of the upper Amazon jungle.

DAY 3:  COLPABAMBA – MACHU PICCHU PUEBLO (AGUAS CALIENTES)

We won’t have to wake up so early today. Breakfast will be around 6:45 am. Then we will continue our hike to Lluscamayu. Along the way we will see Incan bridges, exotic plants and animals, and lots of brightly plumaged tropical birds.  After two hours we will arrive at La Playa where we will catch the bus to Hydroelectrica. From there we can ride the 4:30 pm. train into Aguas Calientes. You will be guided from the train station to your comfortable hotel where you can eat dinner, rest up, and prepare for your excursion to Machu Picchu early on the following day.

DAY 4: GO UP TO THE LOST CITY OF MACHU PICCHU – EXPLORE – RETURN TO CUSCO

After breakfast, you will take the bus up to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu which is One of the Seven Wonders of the World. After you enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of the site, you will have free time to explore this majestic vacation home of the Inca Pachacuteq. Later in the afternoon it will be time to ride back down to Machupicchu Pueblo where you will board your train back to the city of Cusco.
