Trek to Machu Picchu over a section of the Classic Inca Trail.
This is an excellent option for those people who love to hike, but who do not have a lot of time. We invite you to join us on our 1 Day Inca Trail Hike. You will be able to drink in the fabulous beauty of Machu Picchu from the Intipunku (the Gateway of the Sun), and you will see the animals that live in this virgin tropical rainforest as you amble along the ancient trails. Before arriving at Machu Picchu you will make a stop at Wiñay Wayna. These Incan ruins, built on a steep hillside, constitute one of the most amazing complexes that the Incas ever constructed. And you will be able to photograph the Lost City of the Incas from Gateway of the Sun, high above!
Pick-up time if you are staying in Cusco: 4:00 am. at your hotel.
Pick-up time if you are staying in the Sacred Valley: 5:30 am. at your hotel.
We will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco and drive you to the train station in Ollantaytambo. (If you are staying in Ollantaytambo, it’s just a short walk to the train station.) Along with your guide, you will ride the train to Km. 104.
After getting off the train, you will hike over the Vilcanota River on a beautiful bridge and soon arrive at Chachabamba. This is the first Inca ruin on our trek. Upon leaving Chachabamba, the path ascends into the cool shade of the tropical rainforest. After about 3 hours of walking we will come to a magnificent waterfall, and shortly afterwards we will arrive at the fabulous Incan complex of Wiñay Wayna which means ‘Forever Young’ in Quechua.
There we can take a break and enjoy our box lunch. After lunch our journey will continue to the Inti Punku (‘the famous Gateway of the Sun’). To get there will take us another couple hours of hiking. It is from there that you will have your first impressive view of the Seventh Wonder of the World, Machu Picchu.
Next you will have a guided tour of the mysterious temples and the astounding architecture. Your guide will explain all about the sophisticated ideas of the highly advanced culture that once inhabited this Citadel.
Once you have completed your official tour, you will have some extra time to explore the Sanctuary on your own before catching the bus down to the town of Aguas Calientes where you’ll have lunch. From there you will take the late train back to the Ollantaytambo train station. At the station our driver will be waiting for you and will drive you back to your hotel in Cusco or in the Sacred Valley.
