Mother Nature gave us a geological wonderland when the glaciers melted to reveal Rainbow Mountain. There is no place like it in the world. The Ausangate massif, which includes Rainbow Mtn. (whose Quechua name is Vinicunca), is a group of high snow-capped mountains and the tableau includes plateaus, streams, picturesque valleys and diverse fauna like vicuñas, llamas, alpacas, sheep, birds and, of course, the indigenous Andean people with their unique customs and clothing. National Geographic magazine has included this site as one of the top 100 places on the planet that everyone should visit while they are alive.

ITINERARY:

We will pick up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:30 am. We will take the 3 hour ride to the village of Pitumara. In this village we will have a delicious breakfast, and then we will continue to Pampa Chiri, located at the base of snowy Ausangate Mtn. We will walk for approximately 2 hours until we arrive at our objective: The Magical Multi-Colored Rainbow Mountain, which is at an elevation of 5000 meters. We will then have a brief guided tour and take a break to rest and take photos. Afterwards, we will hike back down to Pampa Chiri where our vehicle be awaiting us, and will take us to the village of Pitumarca for lunch. Then, after lunch, it is back to Cusco. (Arrival time is approx. 6:30 pm).
