Description
DESCRIPTION OF THE TOUR:
This tour combines three fascinating and picturesque sites from three different historical periods. You will be able to observe beautiful natural landscapes, lagoons, and amazing ancient archeological sites. First you will explore TIPON which was Incan ceremonial center dedicated to honoring the god of water. Then you will discover the pre-Incan town of PIKILLACTA. This metropolis was constructed by the people of the Wari culture who had conquered the Cusco Valley many centuries before the arrival of the Incas. Finally, in the quaint little town of Andahuaylillas, you will visit the “Sistine Chapel of Americas.” Here the Church dates back to Colonial times, and its ceiling and walls are covered with marvelous murals painted by the dedicated masters of the famous Cusco School of Fine Arts.
ITINERARY:
We will leave the city of Cusco and head south along the highway which eventually leads all the way to the great Lake Titicaca. After driving for about 30 minutes, we’ll turn left up into the hills and visit the beautiful Incan ruins of TIPON. Here we will have a guided tour of 40 min. After your tour of Tipon, we will go to the largest pre-Incan city in the Cusco area, PIKILLACTA. Once again, we will learn all about the site from our knowledgeable guide during our 40 minute tour. We will continue on to the pretty village of Andahuaylillas and visit its impressive Catholic chapel. Because of the fabulous oil paintings which cover the ceiling and walls of the church, it is known as the “Sistine Chapel of Americas.” Then it will be time to return to your hotel in the city of Cusco.
