BALLESTAS ISLAND AND PARACAS

DESCRIPTION:

Ballestas Islands and Paracas National reserve are two natural wonders located 260kms south of Lima (aprox. 4hrs drive) in the district of Paracas, region of Ica. Ballestas islands is a group of rocky formations that host an impressive number of wildlife such as cormorants, boobies, pelicans, terns, seagulls, penguins and sea lions, among other species of birds and mammals living in this fascinating marine ecosystem. It deserves a special mention the economic activity of “guano” (bird´s droppings) extraction, one of the best natural fertilizers highly valued specially for organic farming. Paracas National Reserve, administrated by the “Service of natural areas protected by the peruvian government” offers us an unmatchable scenic beauty, a combination of desert, sand dunes and ocean that can be driven through well marked paths that take us to breathtaking overlooks and hidden beaches where we can sit and appreciate the geologic formation, dip our feet or have a swim in the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Itinerary:

Early pick up from your hotel and drive directly to Paracas. We´ll make few “must stops” on the way. Upon arrival we´ll get organized to board a speed boat with other fellow travelers to be taken to Ballestas Islands. This experience takes 2hrs between a round trip ride and navigating around the islands. After, we´ll return to land to have free time and wander at your leisure, have something light to eat or just relax on the beach. Later, we´ll hop on our vehicle and explore Paracas National Reserve to be amazed by its desertic scenery. Finally, before heading back to Lima we´ll have a well deserved lunch (included) in one of our hotel partners where we can also refresh & relax using the hotel facilities (bar, swimming pool, garden in front ot the beach, restrooms)

What to bring:
Comfortable clothes and shoes, sun protector, hat, bottle of water, binoculars, camera.
